Honky Tonk in Heaven

Well it’s Friday night and I’m heading out for a Texas honky tonk.
Where that steel guitar and fiddle keep folks on the floor all night long.
Now ‘til closing time we’ll kick it up and have a laugh or two.
Good times enough to last the whole night through.

As time rolls on the by and by gets closer by the day.
I fear not the circumstance when I pack it in and I ride away.
To a better place where happy hour occurs most all the time.
And a barstool waits for me in paradise.

Well there better be a honky tonk, in heaven.
You know eternity, lasts so long.
I’ll be there dancing across the floor, through the peanut shells galore.
With St. Peter checking ID’s at the door.

When I walk into that honky tonk, in heaven.
You can bet I’m gonna saddle up and tie one on.
And sit and toast my passed on redneck friends, and joke about the bitter end.
When we checked out and we bought that train ride in.

Inside those swinging doors there’ll be some folks I’d like to meet.
Like Hank and Buc to name a few, John R., Waylon and #3.
In a smoke filled room I’d shake their hands and shed a happy tear.
Then I’d sit right down and buy those boys a beer.

You can disregard the clock you’ll never hear the words last call.
Mind the cowboy code and belly up for all the tales long and tall.
Past the pearly gates a welcome written in a neon sign,
Says open day and night until the end of time.

Well there better be a honky tonk………….in heaven.
